Approaching Uncertainty - When our go to solutions just won’t work

The last few years have been tough. Life is teaching us how to deal with, not knowing and messy complex situations.

For me there have been big relationship and parental challenges. This piece of writing is based on experience borne of personal struggle. The learning is very real and complements the study and practice I’ve done over the years on how to deal with complexity.

Being unsure of what to do, what to say, what lies ahead is uncomfortable.

When we face risks to reputation. Complex entangled problems.

When the stakes are high, it is terrifying.

If livelihood is on the line.

A life or death situation.

We want to jump into action, any action.

Keep  busy. Keep fear at bay.

Pretend we know. Convince others.

Draw on experience, empty formulas, research. Figure it out.

Protect.

Grasp for answers, look to experts, invite different points of view. Go around in circles.

Claw for a lifeline.

What do we do when all we’ve done won’t work?

Unintended impacts mounting. Doing nothing not an option.

Stop pretending.

Stop  acting.

Stop asking.

Drop.

Go beneath thoughts. To the depth of unknowing.

Feel into the intensity of underlying emotion. Let its power be released. Melt.

Embrace the expanse of a bigger opening.

Risk.

Connect with a deeper intuition. A spark ignites.

A glimmer from a silent plea. Something small revealed to be tested.

Risk one clear action.

Watch.

Paths open. Slowly. In dribs and drabs.

Unexpected sources. Surprise outcomes.

A new horizon beckons. More actions.

Sending love and courage
