When your go to solutions just won’t work

Inner Growth Outer Impact

Welcome to my latest realisation on a subject close to the heart. My intention is to to support you to find solace and actionable wisdom for these liminal times.

The last few years have been tough. Life is teaching us how to deal with, not knowing and messy complex situations. For me there have been big relationship and massive parental challenges. This piece of writing is based on experience borne of personal struggle. The learning is very real and complements the study and practice I’ve done over the years on how to deal with complexity.

Update on 2018 photo coming soon.

Approaching Uncertainty - When our go to solutions just won’t work

Being unsure of what to do, what to say, what lies ahead is uncomfortable

When we face risks to reputation. Complex entangled problems.

When the stakes are high, it is terrifying.

If livelihood is on the line.

A life or death situation.

We want to jump into action, any action.

Keep  busy.

Keep fear at bay.

Pretend we know. Convince others.

Draw on experience, empty formulas, research. Figure it out.

Protect.

Grasp for answers, look to experts, invite different points of view. Go around in circles.

Claw for a lifeline.

What do we do when all we’ve done won’t work?

Unintended impacts mounting.

Doing nothing not an option.

Stop pretending.

Stop  acting.

Stop asking.

Drop

Go beneath thoughts. To the depth of unknowing. Feel into the intensity of underlying emotion. Let its power be released. Melt. Embrace the expanse of a bigger opening.

Risk.

Connect with a deeper intuition. A spark ignites. A glimmer from a silent plea. Something small revealed to be tested. Risk one clear action.

Watch.

Paths open. Slowly. In dribs and drabs. Unexpected sources. Surprise outcomes. A new horizon beckons. More actions.

“We need to predict and control to deal with complicated problems but if we rely on it to deal with messy, complex problems it prolongs the agony. Novel actions arise from dropping down into the Depth of Being”

Sending love and courage

Prompts for your week

  1. What is your default mode when certainty escapes you? Pretend, act, ask ….

  2. How would it be to stop, drop, risk and watch?

  3. What’s your unique experience of this?

PS. For the first time in two years, I will be relaunching my Game Changers Programme in a few months. Stay tuned.
